AA Transcon from 27k Points Biz, 40k First

American Airlines operates lie-flat business class and flagship first class on select transcontinental routes between JFK/BOS and LAX/SFO/SNA. Multiple partner programs can book these flights, with Finnair Avios offering the lowest price at 27k business and 40k first using the Avios boost. Partner availability on one program typically means availability on another, so confirm space exists before choosing which program to book through. Both business and first class passengers on these routes get access to Flagship Lounges (ORD, DFW, LAX, MIA, PHL, and the Chelsea/Greenwich Lounges at JFK). First class passengers also get Flagship First Dining, a sit-down restaurant inside the lounge.

Search on seats.aero for AA-operated nonstops between JFK/BOS and LAX/SFO. Pay attention to which program shows the space:

Etihad, Qatar, Qantas = partner availability that Finnair can likely access.
American = AA's own dynamic pricing, often more expensive than partner programs.
Alaska = sometimes shows expanded availability that partners can't book.

Finnair chat works for confirming availability and booking, saves hold time. Link your Finnair Plus and BA Executive Club accounts before transferring via BA Combine Avios. Book each direction through whatever program gives you the best price.

To cut your points spend, use the BA buy bonus:

1. Transfer 25% of your Avios total from your credit card directly to British Airways. For 27k Avios, transfer ~7k. Cards: Chase, Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Wells Fargo (all 1:1).

2. Buy the remaining 75% on BA at 1.2p per point (up to 3x multiplier). Buy ~20k for ~$240.

3. Transfer all BA Avios to Finnair Plus via BA Combine Avios. Accounts must be linked first.

4. Book on finnair.com or chat/call Finnair.

Important: Only points transferred directly from a credit card to BA count toward the buy bonus. Moving Avios between programs (Qatar to BA, etc.) does not qualify.

Before you transfer points: Always verify the availability directly on the booking program's website. Award space can disappear between the time seats.aero checks and when you go to book.
